Rhythms of Kuwait
Music is deeply rooted in the life of Kuwaitis. Amidst the hardships and struggles of the olden days, music has been an undeniable source of relief, a beautiful companion in all travels whether for commerce, fishing or deep-sea journeys in search for pearls, and an element present in religious, social and entertaining occasions.
Kuwaiti music is comprised of different rhythmic genres, and in an environment that lacked natural resources, man has become a significant one. People created their own percussion instruments, using water jugs “Yehala” and their hands to clap collectively and rhythmically, adding uniqueness and precision to the musical sequences they created.
From Kuwait to London, the capital of beauty and diversity, we presented a Kuwaiti musical evening featuring various styles of traditional and contemporary Kuwaiti music at the historic Drury Lane Theatre. Opened in 1663, this venue was classified as a Grade I building of utmost importance in Britain, reflecting its historical, cultural, and aesthetic value. This performance represented a collaborative effort between Kuwaiti and British cultures, leaving the audience with a memorable and enriching experience
